Last year I posted a link to a free Advent study that I found online for my own children. This year will be the third year that we've will do Mrs. Zweigle's Advent Study throughout the Advent Season... beginning on Sunday, November 28, 2010.

Eleanor Zweigle has written a family Advent study using the inductive method of Bible study. In her study, she includes some beautiful drawn illustrations that can be colored as part of the study or for younger children to do.

Lately, I've been notified by a few individuals that they are having problems printing some of the Bible studies from www.scribd.com. I've been having some issues as well.

After some investigation, it seems that some of the studies have the "download" disabled. I don't know why and I've been trying to spend some time checking all of them.

If you find a study that will not print for you and will not allow you to download, please either leave me a message or email me and I will try to investigate further.

So sorry for those who haven't been able to print the study that they desire!!

Advent Study

Last year I found an incredible family advent study. The five of us did this study each day throughout the Advent season and I was thrilled at what my children learned and even remember a year later. Now, a year later, I am replacing our advent candles and looking forward to doing this study again.

Eleanor Zweigle has written an advent study for families based on the inductive method of Bible study. This study seems to be written toward upper elementary age but Eleanor's daughter in law has drawn some stunning illustrations that can be used as coloring pages for younger children.

Here's is the link. It's quite a lot to print out but definitely worth it. I would recommed printing one copy for each child in your family.

Jonah Bible Study

After taking a restful summer sabbatical from writing, I want to post a Jonah study that I had first written for a Sunday School unit. I decided to just post it the way it was written. Having said that, please know that this study is different than any of the other studies that I have posted. It is very brief. Each day's study would only take a child about 10 minutes to complete.

Since our Creator made us all so uniquely different and yet created us to be made in His image, I wanted to include this study on the blog site for anyone who would prefer a shorter study. My hope and prayer is that it will be a blessing.

My friend, Nikki, has graciously given me permission to post her Bible study on the book of Genesis. where to start....how to begin....

This post comes on the heels of a message on The Homeschool Lounge from my lounge sister, Shawntele. Shawntele asked me "I want to do these Bible studies with my kids but I don't know where to start. Can you help me?"

I truly had no idea how to answer Shawntele. I am not a well-known Bible teacher. I am only a homeschool mom whose heart's desire is for young people to develop a love for God and for His Word. I have a mind full of thoughts and ideas and fingers that are sometimes not fast enough to keep up with the words racing thru my head. For two years, I simply had several Bible studies that sat on my shelf and I passed them out to friends' children. I had no idea what to do beyond writing. On a cold January weekend, God taught me how to create a blog, do online publishing, and how to post the studies on this blog so that others could view the studies. Because the words were freely given to me, I longed for an avenue to offer them freely to others. God answered my heart's desire through the internet.

Through this journey, I often feel like a little kid playing "pretend". Somedays I wish I had a manager to organize me and make fancy books and covers for these studies. Sometimes I wish I had an editor to edit the words and combine the studies into an appropriate outline. However, if I did, I couldn't offer them freely. So, in order to be able to offer them freely, I have to continually learn how to present these and how to market them. God teaches me so many different ways and today, He used Shawntele to help teach me yet another lesson...presentation.

Now that I've explained where I've come from and how far I have to go, I will answer Shawntele to the best of my ability....These studies have not been presented in any particular order because they were not written to be done in any particular order. Instead, please use these as a tool to teach your children God's Word. There are several different topics and age groups to chose from and if you look at the sidebar on the right you will see a "blog contents" box that will direct you by age group. There are studies meant for older children to do on their own as well as side-by-side studies for younger children. There are studies for families that include pages for little ones all the way to adults.

As I learn how to do this, hopefully I can learn how to create a blog that is easier to navigate and offer the studies in a better presentation. Until then, thanks for bearing with me!

This family Bible study is actually a Sunday School unit that our church is currently using. I am, again, so thankful to Michelle for the coloring pages. My hope is that a family with multiple children will be able to study this together and learn from each other.

This study is set up for 3-6 year olds, 7-9 year olds, 10-12 year olds, and teens/adults. All of the pages for the 3-6 year olds is in one section, followed by 7-9 year olds, etc. Please check the table of contents before you print this, if you want to avoid printing certain sections.

Understanding Words of Insight

I am falling more and more in love with my LORD's love letter to me written within the pages of my Bible. I love reading. I love studying. I love learning more and more about Him and His plan for my life.

Lately, I've been praying that my own children would develop a love of God's Word. I pray that I am not only providing them with Bible studies; but, that I am providing them with a good example~a legacy of a love of God and His Word.

While working on a few Children's Church lessons for our little congregation, the LORD led me to put together a Bible dictionary for my kids and others to use as a tool in their own study of God's Word. I wanted this to be something that is their own work. They will have to put some time and energy into completing their Bible dictionary but when they are finished I hope that God will use this study to cause them to fall farther in love with their LORD and His Word~just as I have.

Matthew's Story...a journey of hope and healing through miscarriage

We all have "watershed" events in our lives. Those events that seem to change the course of our life in a single moment. Though I've had several times in my life that I can look back on and see my life change coure, none of those events were as life changing as my son, Matthew.

Matthew never drew a breath. He lived 16 short weeks inside of me. I knew of him for only 4 brief months. I never was given the privilege of knowing him. I long for the day when I will meet him in Heaven!

Though I have walked this road 4 times, Matthew was the only one that we got to actually see. God allowed us to experience Him in an unbelievable way and I am so thankful for the journey. Soon after we lost Matthew, I heard myself saying "If God were to offer me a choice of having Matthew back or keeping what I've learned of Him, I would choose to leave Matthew in His arms and live my life with a new understanding of God."

We are blessed beyond what we could have ever imagined. God graciously filled my arms again after Matthew with our youngest, Ellen Mercy. She is a daily reminder of God's tender mercy to us.

Miscarriage is a topic that isn't often discussed. My dear friend, Laurie, called this winter and encouraged me to edit and post Matthew's Story. She is actually my co-writer in this endeavor. She has lost her own little ones. She has chosen to take her experience and turn it into encouragment for others walking this path. Thanks for the example and the encouragement, friend!

Laurie and I both know that every single miscarriage is different. Even for us, we were at different places physically, emotionally and spiritually with each of our losses. We do not profess to have all of the answers. We are only sharing our own experiences and thus, sharing our hearts. Our hope is that those experiencing miscarriage will find hope and healing through Matthew's Story.

yummy Easter treat...

My friend, Lois, just gave me this great Easter treat recipe. Apparently, this has been an Easter morning tradition in their home for many years. Her 3 girls are teens now and still want to have "Empty Tombs" on Easter morning for breakfast. I think this may become an Easter tradition in my home starting this year!

EMPTY TOMBS
1 pkg of jumbo marshmallows
1 pkg of frozen dinner rolls, thawed
melted butter
cinnamon & sugar mixture

Wrap a thawed dinner roll amount of dough around a marshmallow. Shape into a ball. Roll in butter and then in the cinnamon & sugar mixture. Place on a greased baking sheet. Make as many as you need for breakfast. Bake according to the directions for the dinner rolls.

When you remove them from the oven and break them open, they will have a hollow center and will be "empty" just as the tomb was on Resurrection Sunday!

Understanding God's love for us is difficult. It seems to be especially difficult during our teen years. Often we try to understand God's love through the lens of our experiences. For instance, if our parents have not shown us love, we have a hard time understanding God's love for us. If we have been ridiculed for the way we look, sometimes we have a hard time accepting God's love for us. So much of our view of God's love is based on our limited understanding.

My prayer is the prayer that Paul prayed for the Ephesian church "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge" (Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV).

I've had a few people ask me if I would consider putting a pay-pal link on this blog so that they could give to help with this fledgling ministry. I've thought and prayed this through and my answer is "please, just pay it forward".

God has so richly blessed our family. I can not even begin to tell you all that He has done for us! Chad and I stand amazed at a God who gives beyond measure. Our cup runs over!! There is NOTHING that He has not provided for us.

He has also blessed this blog site beyond what I could have even imagined and He has done it without any financial cost to our family. Every website, blog site, and host site that I have used has been free. Every advertisement that I have placed has been free. I am thoroughly convinced that if this ever started costing us money, He will provide all that we need at the time that we need it!

We are living in some hard times. There are hurting people every where I look. Some hurt spiritually, some hurt financially, and most are hurting both spiritually and financially. If you are one of the people who felt led to give to me, please find a hurting heart and bless that person with your thoughts, your prayers and your finances. Thank you!!

Having a consistent daily quiet time with Jehovah is something that I have struggled with for most of my life. Because of my own struggle in this area, I have failed quite miserably in teaching my children the discipline of a consistent daily quiet time.

This Bible study plan was "born" during a family forum when the five of us sat down and brainstormed on what our next family Bible study would be. Every member of my family had a significant part in coming up with this idea.

We are just now implementing this. I'll let you know in six months how it goes. I am hopeful that all five of us will be one step closer to a disciplined quiet time and that our LORD and Savior will stretch us and bless us beyond what we could ask or think.

HIStory Eggs...a redemption celebration for the family

Easter is one of my favorite times of year. I love spring. I love the promise of new life. I love seeing the buds on the trees, the blooming flowers and the returning birds. Most of all, I LOVE the celebration of the resurrection of my LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Last year, our home school cooperative made HIStory Eggs together. The idea is based on Resurrection Eggs but the symbols in HIStory Eggs span the story of God's redemption for mankind. History is God's story. The Bible tells us that history began with creation and the first man and woman. The book of Revelation promises that history, as we know it now, will end when we are all with our Savior forever! The first HIStory Egg has a symbol of an apple or other fruit to signify the first sin. The last HIStory Egg has silk flower petals to signify the marriage feast of the Lamb.

This is less of a Bible study and more of a fun family project. Enjoy!

Slow to Anger...Bible study for 9-12 year olds

The thoughts for this study began flooding my mind during church one cold winter morning. My friend, Jerry, spoke up during prayer request time and said, "Please pray for me. I struggle with anger and I need to get it under control." His prayer request went beyond the safe, "please pray for my grandmother" type of prayer request. Jerry's prayer request was one that was vulnerable. One that reveals a very deep, very personal need.

As I thought over his comments, I realized how many times I do not control my anger. However, I love to portray to the world that I have everything under control~my anger included! I allowed my pride to hold on to my anger issues.

The LORD is merciful and gracious and allowed me to have to chew on some of Solomon's wisdom in the book of Proverbs. While I learned much, writing this particular Bible study was difficult for me because I was faced with my own ugliness. Not only do I struggle with anger at times. I also struggle with pride. Ouch!

I am thankful to Jerry for reminding me to be vulnerable and for reminding me to be willing to allow God to change me from the inside out. Thanks!!

When I mentioned this idea to my Sunday School class and asked them to pray with me and for me, they were estatic! I saw the hunger in their eyes and prayed that God would give me something to satisfy them while they waited. I gave them Feasting on Fruit thinking that it would satisfy for 5 weeks. Most of them finished it much sooner and they loved it!

This study is another direct answer to prayer. I asked God to show me how to teach my children about purity. I wanted more than the pat answers on sexual purity. I wanted to teach them that purity starts in our own hearts; and, what we let our eyes see, our ears hear and where we let our feet take us directly affects the purity of our heart.

Of all the studies to date, this is by far my absolute favorite! I love the idea that my heart is His dwelling place! After working through this thought, I had to change areas in my own life to protect my heart. I hope I am setting a good example for my kids in this. My two oldest have worked through this study and my 9 year old says it was her favorite. I hope it was written deep on the tablet of her human heart!!

On October 30, 2008 the home of some dear friends burned. We have been privileged to stand beside them, pray with them and hope for the future with them. The two oldest daughters of that family have encouraged me and prayed often for me in this endeavor to write Bible studies. As I was with them after the fire, I was burdened to write a study that says that it is okay to ask "why". It's okay to ask the hard questions in life. It's also okay to not have answers but to know Who does.

This study is personalized to Makayli and Makenna. However, soon after I wrote it for them, I was able to give this study to another family going through another trial. While the names are personalized, the lesson is universal. God loves each of us and He has a plan...Jeremiah 29:11-13 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

This Bible study came from a challenge of a close friend to prioritize Scripture memory in our home. I wrote this in anticipation of someday doing this study with my youngest. Several times I tried to write a Bible study on fear. Either I would have a bad case of "writer's bloc" or what was on the computer screen was so bad that I had to delete it. Because He is sovereign and in control, God patiently waited and allowed me to go through a time of intense fear. I knew He was with me while I followed an ambulance with my husband inside as a patient (not as a paramedic). I literally felt Him holding my right hand as tears coursed down my cheeks and I cried out to Him. How I began to write children's Bible studies...

Over Easter weekend 2007, God began an incredible work in my heart and in my life. He began burning His words onto my heart. As these words worked their way from my heart to my mind, a burning passion began. A passion to write Bible studies for children. At times the passion is all-consuming and I can do nothing else until I sit at my computer and allow my fingers to fly across the keyboard.

Everything that is here, everything that has been typed by my fingers has come from Him. Nothing has been written by me with ink but by His Spirit on tablets of human hearts, starting with my heart. He alone gets the glory. 2 Corinthians 3:1-6 "Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. My God, my Jehovah, is merciful! Why He has asked me to do this is beyond any of my own comprehension. I do not have a degree in education nor in Bible. I graduated from Cedarville College in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a minor in Bible. My training in education has come from the life lessons that home schooling three children provides. However, He promises that nothing is too difficult for Him. My job is simply to trust and obey.

These Bible studies have been written with some very special friends in mind. The kids at Oak Grove Community Church spur me on! Their hunger for God's Word is insatiable and I am often at a loss as to how to keep up with them! I am indebted forever to them for allowing God to use them in my life. I hope that they have learned as much as I have.
